Pine Hills Neighborhood Association Today

Preservation and Advocacy

As both Atlanta and Brookhaven cities continue to develop and grow, PHNA’s role is more important than ever in promoting its interests, maintaining the integrity of our residential neighborhood and keeping its residents informed and safe. In addition to staying abreast of topics of concern that affect the neighborhood, our various committees – especially Zoning, Security, and Parks/Environment – are actively involved in protecting neighborhood interests in land use, zoning, licensing, environmental protection, including preservation of our tree canopy, civic, security and other matters.

While PHNA works closely with all its residents on such initiatives, it also works in unison with other important and influential organizations and coalitions whose broader missions directly impact our way of life. These include BCN (Buckhead Council of Neighborhoods), NPU-B (Neighborhood Planning Unit B) and the ANSC (Atlanta Neighborhoods Security Coalition).  Read more about BCN, NPU-B and the ANSC.

In 2018, PHNA’s efforts and success in preservation was reflected in its recent recognition as one of Atlanta’s “hottest” best neighborhoods as featured in Atlanta Magazine.

Birdhaven Garden Club

The bluebird carries the sky on his back.
– Henry David Thoreau

Our mission is to preserve and maintain the beauty and rich history of Buckhead’s best kept secret, the Pine Hills neighborhood. The Birdhaven Garden Club meets in the homes of Club members on the first Wednesday of every month at 10:00 am, September through May. Occasionally we venture outside the neighborhood and take a field trip to the Atlanta Flower Show or something similar.

Meet your neighbors and learn more about the Birdhaven Garden Club activities and events. Please support the Club by becoming a member, volunteering or even just making a donation.

The Birdhaven Garden Club provides and manages:
– Dogipots throughout the neighborhood (with support from our sponsors)
– The annual Halloween Carnival (held at Roxboro Valley Pool)
– Holiday Baskets for the elderly

Dogipots

There are 14 dogipots located strategically in Pine Hills along pedestrian walkways. Every January the Garden Club solicits sponsors for each dogipot.

The yearly cost to sponsor a dogipot is $100. Sponsors, along with the Garden Club, pay to maintain and replace, as necessary, the dogipots. Each sponsor can provide a picture of their pet to the Garden Club, to be mounted on the corresponding dogipot.

For more information about dogipots, email birdhavengardenclub@gmail.com.

Roxboro Valley Pool

The Roxboro Valley Association Pool and Tennis Club is a private club nestled in the Pine Hills neighborhood at the end of Roxboro Drive, just southeast of Lenox Square Mall. For over fifty years, neighbors from the Pine Hills community and beyond have spent summers relaxing in the club’s pool. In addition to a 25-meter heated pool and baby pool, the Club offers a picnic pavilion, children’s playground, “snack shack,” lighted tennis courts and more. To learn more, visit roxborovalley.com.

Annual Events

Pine Hills Yard Sale
Held in October, the annual Neighborhood Yard Sale offers the opportunity to participate as a seller, buyer or just general observer. Homes within PHNA can opt in as a seller for a minimal registration fee, are given balloons to tie in front of their home and are included on the Seller’s Map, located at each seller’s yard sale. For more info, contact phnayardsale@gmail.com. In 2020, Pine Hills has canceled the Annual Yard Sale due to COVID-19.

Halloween Carnival
Typically held the Saturday before Halloween, the Pine Hills Halloween Carnival has been an annual tradition for many years, hosted in conjunction with the Birdhaven Garden Club.  Food, games, prizes, cake walk, bouncy house and silent auction are just some of the many attractions that add to the carnival’s fun.  While the carnival is geared towards children under the age of 10, anyone (including adults!) is welcome to participate or volunteer to help.  Sponsorship opportunities exist. Tickets sold on site. In 2020, Pine Hills has canceled the annual Halloween Carnival due to COVID-19.

Neighborhood Trick or Treat Experience
Each year on October 31, Pine Hills closes W. Roxboro Rd between Bonview Lane and Canter Road. With uniformed police officers to assist in traffic and safety throughout the evening (typically 5 – 11 p.m.), the neighborhood opens itself up to trick or treating and plenty of Halloween fun! Even if you do not have little ones at home, head to W. Roxboro to see the fantastic costumes and get in on the action! This year Pine Hills will not close off W. Roxboro since the City of Atlanta is not issuing street closure permits, due to COVID-19.

Pine Hills Parks

Shady Valley Park is located off Buford Highway on Shady Valley Road in the Fulton County section of Pine Hills. With three public tennis courts, a full basketball court, shaded playground and tons of green space, you will catch a glimpse of Peachtree Creek as it crosses Buford Highway.

Indian Creek Park (3162 Lenox Rd.) – Coming Soon!
In 2017, the City of Atlanta purchased two residential lots in order to create the new site for Indian Creek Park. The park, which was formally dedicated in 2018, was taken on by a project of Atlanta Classical Academy. To date, the park is still awaiting completion. We look forward to when we can include Indian Creek Park as another walkable Pine Hills destination!
